What is the promotion policy for bank clerks?

Thousands of candidates join as bank clerks every year at various public sector and private sector banks with an aspiration of great future and a brighter career in store. Lots of candidates even land up to this job after possessing Engineering and Management degrees due to security of the job. Another benevolent factor for joining the banking industry among the candidates is its scope for future growth and development. It is easier to climb the ladder of success, once the candidates make sure their berth in any of the nationalised bank. The candidates after getting provisionally selected need to go through a three month training after which they get posted to various branches where the recruitment is for them. The candidates need to focus on their work and enhance their skills to further make their chances for future development and growth.


Promotional scopes for bank clerks
Candidates who have ensured their place in any nationalized bank across the country would have to undergo their service for at least a period of two years in order to be eligible for promotion. The candidates must have been posted in rural areas or semi urban areas for promotion from scale I to Scale II and three years for promotion into scale III from scale II. There are other channels such as normal/seniority channel and merit/fast track channels available in case of bank promotion, which is applied to individual candidates depending on their performance in the banking services. A JAIIB and CAIIB examination conducted by Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF) is another such arena which can help candidates get promoted further in their respective banks. Upon clearing JAIIB and CAIIB the candidates could get 3 increments (1 for JAIIB and 2 for CAIIB) and consequently their salary would be on the rise as well. Passing these examinations also allows the candidates to secure the home state retaining power after they get promoted. Clearing these examinations also allows the candidates to fall into fast track channel of becoming officer from clerical cadres.

Eligibility criteria for the promotion of clerks
The date for determining the eligibility of the candidates is set to be 1st April of the financial year. It is the time when most of the vacancies arise in the banks and it becomes clear to the authorities that how many candidates are needed through promoting them in intra bank. The completed years of the candidates is also counted in respect of this date. Even the officers who are in detention for one year would be treated as vacancy in this period and there would be scope for the clerks to fill in for the promotion. The candidates need to apply for the promotion and appeared for examination as well. Those candidates having passed CAIIB and JAIIB examinations conducted by IIBF would be given prominence at the time of promotion examinations. It is a blooming sector with a host of opportunity for the candidates to grow in future.
